Page 8 of 8 Where else is this problem occurring in the United States?MSD is not alone in its efforts to control sewer overflows and reduce their negative impact on the environment. Many communities across the United States, particularly in the Midwest, northeast and northwest, are also working to address this problem. At present, 746 communities in more than 32 states are dealing with combined sewer overflows and nearly every wastewater system in the country is contending with sanitary sewer overflows.
